Dr. Josef Pekař
The school has a three hundred year tradition and is named after an important Czech historian
; it provides high-school education finishing with an advanced level final exam in the following study subjects:
- eight year course for pupils who have finished the fifth class of elementary school
- four year course for pupils who have finished the ninth class of elementary school
Dr. Josef Pekař was born on the 12th April 1870 in the village of Malý Rohozec near Turnov. In 1880 he left his Turnov school for the Gymnasium School in the town of Mladá Boleslav. After leaving the Gymnasium, he studied at Charles University and was awarded the title of Doctor of Philosophy , subsequently becoming a secondary-school teacher of history and geography at Gymnasium in Mladá Boleslav. Later, he received a degree to teach at Prague university and was nominated a full professor of Czechoslovak History. In the following years he was elected Dean of the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University, and in 1931 he became Rector. He was also proposed for the post of Czechoslovak President. He died on 23rd January 1937 and was buried in the small village of Jenišovice near Turnov.
